Gena's obituary
We bring you a tribute of a hard fought life, and a story of a woman who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Eugenia Lynn Dodrill Andersen, affectionately known as Gena to her friends and family, passed away at home, with loved ones near, on December 3, 2023, in her hometown of Niles, Ohio, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on November 29, 1952, Gena's journey through life was marked by her spirited nature, intelligence, strong will, and a sense of humor that could light up the darkest of rooms.
Gena's early years were spent in the same town she would later say her goodbyes. She was born to Onalea Evans and grew up alongside her brother Gary Dodrill, both of whom predeceased her. Throughout her life, Gena raised her sons with an exuberant spirit, and an overwhelming amount of love that was always felt no matter the situation. She leaves behind three sons, Brian, Cameron, and Skyler Smith, as well as her stepdaughter Elizabeth Andersen, and eleven grandchildren.
Gena's passion for music reached its pinnacle with her involvement with in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Choir, where her voice added to the harmonious sounds of the Grammy award winning group. In addition to her many performances in theaters, she has also been known to bring the house down at the local karaoke shows in her free time. Her dedication to her craft was not only a personal joy but an offering of beauty to those fortunate enough to hear her sing.
At the age of 15 she joined the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she found a community of faith and fellowship. Till the end of her life, she was determined to pursue a stronger commitment to her faith with eternal optimism, and passion, despite the trials and tribulation that life threw her way. Her faith gave her great joy in life, and she found great peace knowing that she will be received by her loved ones in the next. Her commitment to family history and genealogy was something she considered one of the most intensively satisfying joys of her life.
In every aspect of her life, Gena embodied the qualities that made her unforgettable. Her intelligence shone through in her passionate conversations and insightful, oft strong, perspectives. Her generosity, and willingness to serve others also has left a lasting impact on this world that many will not forget. Friends and family often found themselves laughing along with her quick wit and funny anecdotes, which she delivered with joyous rye smile.
The loss of Eugenia Lynn Dodrill Andersen is deeply felt by those who knew her. Her larger than life personality, and spirited zeal will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of many. As we say goodbye to Gena, we celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of music, love, laughter, and an unwavering strength that will continue to inspire generations to come.
