Eugene's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Robert "Gene" Young on February 17, 2021, in Gloversville, New York. Born on September 15, 1945, Gene was the beloved son of Glenn and Mona Young, who predeceased him. He was the eldest of five brothers and is remembered fondly by his siblings Richard, Michael, Dale, and Darrin Young, as well as other family members.
Gene led a humble and meaningful life. He had a natural curiosity for understanding how things worked and spent countless hours tinkering with engines and machinery. A man of faith, Gene found joy in sharing the word of God with others and lived his life in service to his family and community. Though he never married, he embraced his roles as an uncle, brother, and friend with great devotion.
Professionally, Gene worked in the leather industry for many years. Then he volunteered as a groundskeeper for a church in Gloversville. Later on in life Gene chose to become a bus driver for the Fonda-Fultonville School District. His time with Brown’s Transportation was especially fulfilling; he cherished his role as "Mr. Young," ensuring the safety and happiness of his students during their daily journeys. His dedication left a lasting impression on those he served.
Gene was laid to rest beside his mother at Evergreen Cemetery on the Sand Flats outside of Fonda, New York. In lieu of flowers, Gene would have appreciated donations to local food banks or programs supporting youth or homeless pets—causes close to his heart. He had a special fondness for animals, particularly dogs and cats.
Though his passing brings sorrow to those who knew him, Gene’s memory will live on in the lives he touched. May he rest peacefully in Heaven.
