Eugene Allen Thorpe was born at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York to the late Eugene and Sadie Thorpe on August 15, 1954. Gene or Junie, as he was affectionately known, graduated with a GED from Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School. He worked an array of jobs which included Landscaper at NY Parks and Recreation, Chauffeur at Cabot Limousine, Skycap at JFK Airport, Pet Groomer at Gilbert's Ultimate Pet Grooming Care, and obtained a Class B Short Truck CDL License. In the mid to late 80s, he was featured on TV for saving a Scientist and everyone in the airport from someone who entered with a smoking chemical bag. He was a member of the National Association for Black Veterans-Brooklyn, working in every effort towards its mission to end homelessness, empower low-income, minority, veterans, and advocate for the disadvantaged youth. In 2000, he married Cheryl Ann Holder of Trinidad. On December 8, 2018, at age 64, he passed away in hospice care. He is survived by one son; three siblings – Linda, Rachel, and Ricky; and a host of other family members.
