Gene's obituary
Eugene Deda, 88, of Seattle, Washington, entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, November 22, 2024, at home after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Born in Amsterdam on June 5, 1936, and raised in Broadalbin, NY, Gene was a son and third child of the late Katherine Jakob and Anthony Dado/Deda. Gene was a 1954 graduate of Broadalbin High School. For many years, he enjoyed flying back east for reunions with his classmates and often kept in touch with them through the years. Gene served in the Air Force and, after studying Electrical Engineering at Washington State University Pullman, Gene became employed by Boeing, a career that kept him in Seattle and one that lasted for 35 years.
Gene met his wife and the love of his life, Janet, in 1965 while working at Boeing. They spent 55 years together, traveling often in their motorhome with their circle of friends. They enjoyed camping, going on cruises, ballroom dancing, and of course square dancing, something inherited from his parents. Gene was loved, especially by Jan, for his kindness and sense of humor.
Gene was a man of many passions and talents, but above all, he was known for his deep love of the Lord, family, music, and his Polish heritage. Gene was an avid accordion player since high school and could easily tinker out a song on the piano, with a remarkable ability to play music by ear. His musical talent brought joy to countless people and was a source of pride for those who knew him. A proud Polish-American, Gene was particularly passionate about his ancestry. His curiosity about his family’s roots led him on a lifelong journey of discovery and he spent many hours online researching his family’s history. Gene was thrilled when he made contact with distant relatives in his ancestral hometown in Poland, an achievement that brought him great joy and a sense of connection to his heritage. Gene’s faith in the Lord played a major role in his life. He was a very Christian man who faced every day of his life with the strength God provided. He strongly believed in the Bible and the Word of God.
In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by a brother, Anthony John “Sonny” Dado, who died in 1939, a sister Marion Dado Walag, who died in 2007, a sister Charlotte Dado Klymkow, who died in 2009, a son Rick, who died in 1992, a son Lon, who died in 2014, and a dear cousin Margurite Horman, who died in 2021.
Surviving family includes his wife of 55 years, Janet; a son, Chris Orr of Spokane, WA; a daughter Theresa Burton (Bob) of Moses Lake, WA; a niece Amy Walag of Perth, NY; a niece Kathy Klymkow Kenyon of Broadalbin, NY; a nephew Emil Klymkow of Broadalbin, NY; and many grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren. Gene also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Gigi, a Bishon/Havanese he loved dearly and who brought him joy and laughter. Gene and Jan always enjoyed walks in the park or around their retirement community with Gigi.
Due to the time of year, services will be held in the spring. At that time, interment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington.
