Ethelyn's obituary
Ethelyn G. Scholl, was born November 18, 1934, in Elmira, New York, to Clifford Vernon Huff (1904-1967) and Laura Hartshorn Tuller Huff (1908-1980).
Ethelyn was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, March 28, 2025. A devoted mother of three she is survived by her son Clifford (Yvonne), Fredericksburg, Virginia, and daughters Sharilyn (Stanley “Stan”), Middleburg, Florida, and Carolyn (Richard “Rick”), Middleburg, Florida. She often said her children were her greatest joy. Instilling a love for God and Christian values was what she cherished most. Ethelyn is also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Affectionately known as Aunt “E” and Aunt “Ray-Ray,” she was a beloved figure, earning the title of “favorite aunt.”
Music was important during her years at Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights, New York, where she played the trumpet and was active in the marching band. She then attended Eastern Bible Institute, Green Lane, Pennsylvania, where she met her husband, Gilbert (dec. 2019). They married in 1958 and shared 61 loving years together until his passing in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
Ethelyn possessed a strong aptitude for mathematics and technical skills, with a career in bookkeeping. After moving south to the Carolinas, she worked as a teacher’s assistant and later as a word processor in the President’s Club at the PTL Television Network in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
She and Gilbert enjoyed many years of travel which included a family cruise to Alaska, summer trips to Canada, camping, and many trips to Myrtle Beach where laughter abounded and memories were made.
Ethelyn was a skilled baker and cook and pursued numerous hobbies including reading, challenging puzzles, crocheting, and knitting. Her generosity shone through in the many handmade baby blankets she provided for family and infants in a local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In her earlier years her love for music extended to playing the piano where she occasionally played at her local church.
In her late 80s, Ethelyn developed dementia. Following a fall and subsequent surgery at the age of 90, she entered in-home hospice care, and was lovingly cared for by her family in Middleburg, Florida, until her peaceful passing.
Gilbert and Ethelyn will be permanently laid to rest, together, on a date and location to be determined.
