Faye's obituary
In Her Own Words
(Written in the spirit of Faye Harrington)
Well, if you’re reading this, my daughter had to write this for me — I always said I was going to write my own obituary, but life had other plans. So she’s finishing what I meant to start, and I know she’ll do me proud.
My name is Esther Faye Harrington, but don’t ever call me Esther. I was born November 16, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina. After 76 years full of love, sweat, laughter, and tears — with so many stories in between — I passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2025 at 11:31 pm surrounded by family, just where I wanted to be. Yes...my "official" date is different but it takes time for a poor soul to come pronounce me so I'm setting the record straight here. God sure did take His sweet time bringing me home, though. All things are done in His time, I know.
I’ve had a good life, but man, some of my roads had some rough bumps to get over. Still, I worked hard, loved deeply, and tried to live a good life. I never met a stranger and was always up for a good chat or a helping hand. If you ever came to my house, you probably left with a full belly, a little advice you didn’t ask for, and maybe some cat hair.
I leave behind my cats, Cinders and Ashes; our faithful guard dog, Gus, who kept me safe from delivery drivers; and people I love dearly — my husband, Richard D. Harrington Sr. (I had to go on ahead and make sure things were in order before you get here, Papa); my daughter, Emmalee Faye Harrington (I love you bunches and bunches, sugar — always and forever); my stepson, Richard D. Harrington Jr.; my baby sissy, Judith Lynne Yankle (You were basically my first child so don't think I won't be watching over you); my sister-in-law, Sue Chapman; my niece, Aubrey Faucette (Listen girl, you got this! You've made it this far!) and her husband, Nick, with Dalton, Jensen, and Dani; and my nieces Kandis and DeAnne and their families. ( I love my people so much and will miss them bunches!)
I’m joining my brother, Jim Chapman and brother-in-law, Bob Yankle, who got to Heaven first — and I’m sure both already have something smart to say about it. I’m also joining my parents and grandparents, who I’ve missed so much and can’t wait to talk their ears off! Plus... I get to see every cat I’ve ever owned!
And no pine box for me — I finally get to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a cadaver for science! I really wanted the body farm, but the husband said no. Darn! Even in death, I always said I’d make myself useful one way or another. I feel like I’m a treasure trove of medical issues.
Well, I’ve said my peace, and there’s a candy bowl calling my name — along with some peanut butter and mustard saltine crackers. I will be on a front porch in the most comfortable rocking chairs with my family talking forever in God's beautiful light.
Thank you to all who loved me and were a part of my life. I’ll see ya on the other side of these pearly gates, waiting with a bag of candy and a hug!
P.S. When life gets hard, put your big girl undies on and deal with it.
“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test,he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” (James 1:12)
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) (My favorite!)
