Esteban's obituary
Esteban Ramirez, a beloved figure in the Holyoke, Massachusetts community, passed away peacefully this week at the age of 76.
Born in Bayomon, Puerto Rico, Mr. Ramirez moved to Holyoke as a young man where he left an indelible mark as an entrepreneur and community leader.
In his youth, Esteban excelled in sports, a passion he carried into adulthood as a businessman. Leveraging this love and expertise, he founded Ramirez Athletics in 1993, growing the business to four locations throughout Massachusetts and serving as the premier sporting goods destination for generations of young Massachusetts athletes and their families.
Beyond business, Esteban was deeply involved in community service, serving in the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and as president of the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
Esteban retired in 2010, and proudly passed ownership of his of his business to his daughter, Paula. He spent the final years of his life in Boston, but remained involved with the Holyoke community.
In retirement, Esteban discovered a passion for pottery, and continued to nurture his love for sports by assisting with local youth sports programs, where his presence and guidance were cherished by young athletes.
Esteban Ramirez is survived by his beloved wife Anita, their daughter Paula, and his niece and nephew, Heather and Angel Silva. He will be remembered fondly for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering commitment to his community.
A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Church and Rectory in Holyoke, Massachusetts on June 25, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the Ramirez family requests that donations be made to the Holyoke Recreation Department, honoring Ignacio's lifelong dedication to youth sports and community enrichment.
Esteban Ramirez's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the community he enriched with his passion, kindness, and enduring spirit.
