Ernestine's obituary

Ernestine Longoria Rodriguez, known to many as Tina, Grandma Tina, Tia, Comadre, second mom and friend passed away peacefully listening to the Rosary being prayed in the background. Her death took place in her home on 12/31/22 where she was loved and cared for by her daughter, daughter in law, caregiver Elaine, and the Agape Hospice team. Tina took her last breath eight years and one day after her beloved husband Joe. She has now joined him and two of her three children in the spiritual realm.

Tina was born on December 5, 1933 in San Antonio, TX where years later she met her husband Joe U. Rodriguez. While raising her two boys and a girl and working at the warehouse of Lerner Shops as a lead person, she and her husband enjoyed having weekend gatherings at their home, going to the beach, camping, or spending time at the homes of family and friends. Tina enjoyed dancing, sharing stories, spending time with her grandchildren who meant the world to her. She had several ways of showing love and one of them was through her cooking and a good cook she was. She also showed loved by opening her home to family and friends. She was known for her kindness and generosity. She would reach out to folks “just to touch bases,” or to say “I love you,” and “God Bless.” Tina was known for her dedication to God and her family. When her children were in school she volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, as a soccer mom, and taxi driver taking the kids and their friends to fun places. Tina returned to school and received her GED at age 50 and became employed in the accounting department for the restaurant industry.

Tina and her husband moved to Hesperia, CA after they both retired in the mid 1990’s. Tina enjoyed working in the yard taking care of the many roses her husband planted. She joined another church community, where she was active in the Catholic Daughter’s Association and Altar Society volunteering her time and energy. A devout Catholic forever dedicated to saying the rosary, for loved ones and praying for the world, it was her solace and strength. She did her best to start a new life in GA after the death of her husband and youngest son in CA. Despite the pain of her emotional loss and that of moving away from most of her family and friends she joined a new church, enjoyed traveling back and forth to CA and spending time with other family and friends that loved her. She also made some trips to TX to visit family and share the memories of her childhood. Tina attended a few adult day care centers, where she would easily talk to others, play games, listen to live entertainment and exercise. Tina enjoyed reading, doing her puzzle books, talking on the phone to family and friends, listening to the Devine Mercy Song and above all praying the rosary.

She is predeceased by her husband Joe U. Rodriguez, oldest son Ronnie Rodriguez, and youngest son Joseph A. Rodriguez.

She is survived by her daughter Diana Rodriguez and daughter in law Jan Hawes. Grandchildren Jennifer Jacobson, Robert Rodriguez, Danielle Sunden, Juliana, Lisa and Moni, and several great grand-children, brother in law Tom (TX) and sister in law Josie (CA), nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and daughter in law Diana Rodriguez.

Tina is deeply missed.
