Just thinking about Erik toda…
Just thinking about Erik today. Erik will never be forgotten.

Erik was an ongoing inspiration in my life and empowered me to provide the highest quality clinical care for ALL human beings with evidence based treatments that effectively support marginalized LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse client populations.

Erik's mentorship as an expert clinician and University of Southern California professor helped me grow into the clinician I am today.  Erik taught me much of what I know as a clinical social worker and practice today. I am so thankful for his care, mentorship, encouragement, and friendship.

Erik was also highly supportive of my scholarship. He was my first reader for my article on supporting victims of sexual assault on college campuses. Erik had also recommended me to join as faculty on his team.

Above all, he was a kind, sweet, and giving soul. To know Erik was to love him.

I cannot thank Erik enough. For the duration of my career, I will continue to pay tribute to Erik in my advocacy, care, and volunteerism.

Thank you, Ted, and Erik's Mom, brother, etc. for sharing Erik with us.

A Heartfelt Thank You

I'm deeply touched by the generosity of all those who have chosen to honor Erik through donations to the causes he cared about so much. Your kindness and support are a beautiful reflection of his spirit and the impact he had on the lives of others.

Erik believed strongly in the power of giving, and knowing that his legacy will continue to make a difference in areas close to his heart brings us great comfort. Your contributions not only celebrate his memory but also help to further the causes that were so important to him.

Thank you for your compassion, your thoughtfulness, and for keeping his memory alive through your acts of kindness. It means more than words can express.

With gratitude,

Ted

As former Dean of the School of Social Work at USC, I knew Erik's work and contributions well.  He brought a special spirit of commitment, great energy, and genuine dedication in his role as faculty member.  I greatly valued the ways in which he brought his talents to bear in the classroom, with administrative assignments, and in the university community.  His appointment as Assistant Professor at  California State University in San Bernadino points to the steady path of professional progress he was making.  He was a special human being who will be greatly missed both within and outside of university life although his intellectual and personal gifts to us all will long persist.
I've added a campus map here …
I've added a campus map here for the Memorial on 01/31/25 with the Social and Behavioral Science Building (SBS) circled in black, and the closest parking lot circled in red. The SBS building is a large white building whose extensive railings make it look a bit like a cruise ship. We'll have signs directing attendees to the elevator to the 5th floor conference room.
"Come to spin class...It will be fun!"  Erik promised.  He blazed on his cycle while I puttered my way through.  Hiking was more my style and speed and Erik was ever a joyous companion.  Love you.  Miss you.
Erik, always the happy hiker!

Dr Schott was an amazing professor. This is a great loss for our community. The social workers who learned from him are lucky. He was kind, generous, understanding, and passionate. I am very sad he is gone too soon.
I knew Erik since he was born and I loved him dearly.  I found this quote that reminded me of him.

"A butterfly lights beside us

          Like a sunbeam

                  And for

          A brief moment,

Its Glory and Beauty belong

          To Our World,

             But then

       It fly’s on Again,

  And Though We wish

   It could Have Stayed

      We feel so lucky

      To Have seen It!”

We will always remember you Erik!

Love,

Your adopted Aunt and Uncle

Dr. Schott was so proud to be…
Dr. Schott was so proud to be a CSUSB coyote and always met us with a smiling face for our classes 💙
Dr. Schott truly knew what we…
Dr. Schott truly knew what we needed as graduate students in the thick of our program. He adapted his lecture to be a cooking show style lecture and it was just what we needed. This is just a small example of the effort, care, and love he put in his work and students.
