Eric's obituary
Eric Colin Henderson, 21, of Virginia Beach, VA, was called home on December 26, 2022. He was a beloved young man with many names; “Eric”, “Colin”, “The Boy”, “Collard”, “E” but none were more important to him than son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. As a baby, he demonstrated an infectious and indominable spirit that needed plenty of space to roam. His smile radiated a warmth and light that enveloped those around him.
Colin attended Atlantic Shores Christian Schools for high school. He was a passionate basketball player and played on several AAU teams since learning how to shoot. He was honored to receive an academic and athletic scholarship from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. During his sophomore year as a Livingstone Blue Bear, he played as a small forward for the men’s basketball team. His dedication to both educational and basketball pursuits, made him an ultimate student athlete.
Colin’s sense of humor and servant heart will always be remembered. It was impossible not to smile when Colin was smiling. In his 21 years, he was a brother and friend to many. Family was always first in his heart. He was a good son.
Eric Colin is survived by his mother, Carol Johnson (Virginia Beach); father, Eric Henderson (Emporia, VA); sisters Erin Henderson (Ohio) and Mikila Purvis (Virginia Beach); paternal grandparents, Marjorie and Daniel Wright (New Bern); aunts Tanya Blaine and Erica Wright; uncles David Blaine and Daniel Wright; and a host of additional family members, friends and mentors. His maternal grandparents William and Hui Cha Johnson (Fayetteville), preceded Colin in death and will now help welcome him home.
