Eric's obituary
Eric J. Freeman, 59, passed away after a battle with cancer on February 2nd, 2025, in Beloit, Wisconsin. He was born on April 19, 1965, in Rockford, Illinois.
Eric proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years until his honorable discharge. His dedication to service was a defining part of his life. Before his military career, he graduated from Turner High School and later attended Blackhawk Technical College.
A man of many talents, Eric had a deep passion for working on cars, trucks, and small motors. With an innate ability to diagnose mechanical issues, he embraced the challenge of fixing them with skill and determination. His craftsmanship extended beyond mechanics—he was also a master woodworker whose patience and precision were evident in every project he undertook. An animal lover at heart, he found joy in caring for and being around animals.
Eric was known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether lending a hand with repairs or offering support during difficult times, he never hesitated to assist others. His resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities made him someone people could always count on, even if he was late.
In 2009, Eric was baptized at Good News Christian Center in Beloit, marking an important moment in his spiritual journey.
He is survived by his son Dakota Kelly and Dakota’s partner Isaiah Martinez; his son Bobby Kelly and Bobby's partner Selina Nevarez; his daughter Lily Townsend and her husband Gerald Townsend; his daughter Leslie Horinka and her husband John Horinka; his brothers Lars Freeman, Aron Freeman, and Nels Freeman; his nieces Sabrina Freeman, Samantha Freeman, and Tayler Wells; his nephew Luke Freeman; his sisters-in-law Char Freeman and Jennifer Freeman; as well as his mother Ruth Borgwardt and stepfather Charles Borgwardt.
Also survived by his close friends Brenda Baker, Brad Baker, Kris Klika and lifelong friend John Wagner.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Freeman; stepson, Josh Fehly-Freeman; and son-in-law, Jacob Branaman (Kelly).
The spreading of ashes will be done at Rock Cut State Park by Pierce Lake at 3pm until the gathering is finished for the celebration of his life.
Eric’s memory will live on through the lives he touched with his kindness and skill. May those who knew him find comfort in remembering the impact he had on their lives.
