Eric's obituary
With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Eric B Baumgartner. Eric passed away surrounded by his loving children on November 7, 2025, after his courageous battle with Cancer. Eric has left each of us with countless memories etched in our hearts. He will be remembered as a loving Father, Brother, Grandpa and friend.
Eric was born on May 1, 1958 in Ohio to the late Mary Colleen Frye Baumgartner and William George Baumgartner. Eric’s younger years were spent learning about the world through exploration and travel. He fondly talked about his connections with the VFW through his parents and brother and the overseas travel he got to experience in his later years in life. Eric retired here in Oconee County, SC in the beautiful mountains of the Foothills. Eric was a man characterized by his steadfast personality and commitment to those he loved. An avid Harley enthusiast who loved the freedom of the open road. He also enjoyed escaping into fantasy books, a past time he cherished sharing with his son and granddaughter Bella. He was a man who found joy in simple pleasures, taking time to soak in the sun, listening to his wind chimes and savoring an ice-cold Coke. His favorite vacation retreat was the tranquil Myrtle Beach, where he started his family and often visited to unwind. Eric's warm presence, unwavering support, and gentle wisdom touched all those who had the honor of knowing him.
Eric leaves behind a large and loving family. His son William (Hannah) Baumgartner of Easley SC and their daughter Eleanor Baumgartner. His twin daughters affectionately referred to as Doven. Kelley (David) Speers of Hartwell GA and their children Isabella Stegall, Ian Speers, and Logan Speers. Katie (Jonathan) Baumgartner of Westminster SC and their children Zoey Hicks, Aiden Baumgartner, Emelia Baumgartner, Addileigh Baumgartner, and baby girl Erika Baumgartner, joining the family in December 2025. As well as his brothers, Mark (Joyce) Baumgartner of Tampa FL and Dana (Robin) Baumgartner of Hendersonville NC.
Eric was predeceased by his beloved parents, as well as his dear nephew, Ryan Baumgartner.
Eric’s legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren, who will miss their loving Grandpa.
We, his family and friends, hold dear the time spent with Eric, cherishing the indelible marks left by his powerful spirit. We will remember him as a man who lived by his convictions and valued his family above all else.
A private service will be held in May 2026, at the Hanover Cemetery located at 1520 Rock Haven, Rd, Newark, Ohio 43055.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of the Foothills for their care and compassion.
