Emmett's obituary
Emmett Alexander Tzeris (née Emily Louise Burris), age 39, passed away on January 4, 2026, at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Emmett was preceded in death by his father, Mark Burris, Sr., and his beloved daughter, Sara Nikol Dudley.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Liesel Ann Tzeris; his cherished sons, Nikolos Rion Dudley and Aiden “Reese” Michael Dudley; his mother, Becky Goddard; his brother, Mark (Jo Lyn) Burris Jr.; his sister, Erica (Ryan) Penn; and his nephews, River and Denver Penn. Emmett also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and friends who are deeply devastated by his passing.
Emmett was passionate about living life fully and authentically. He loved traveling, experiencing new places, and connecting with people in meaningful ways. As a proud trans man, he was deeply involved in and committed to the LGBTQIA+ community, offering visibility, advocacy, and compassion. His dedication extended strongly to the disability community, where he worked tirelessly to support and uplift others.
Professionally, Emmett was thriving. He was an invaluable and growing resource at Easterseals Central and Southeast Ohio, where his work reflected both his heart and his commitment to service. At the time of his passing, he was also pursuing his Master’s degree at Southern New Hampshire University, a testament to his drive, resilience, and desire to continue learning and giving back.
Emmett will be remembered for his passion, determination, generosity, and the profound love he had for his family and community. His life, though far too short, was full of purpose and impact.
A memorial service is currently in the works, and details will be shared at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emmett’s name to Easterseals Central and Southeast Ohio. Family and friends are encouraged to celebrate Emmett’s life and the many successes and connections that defined who he was.
