Emmy's obituary

VOLENBERG, EMMA LOU, L. (nee Fischer)- MADISON, WI/CLEARWATER, FL - passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice Care Center North Pinellas in Palm Harbor, Florida on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the age of 88. Emma Lou “Emmy” was born on August 13, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA.  She was the daughter of Herman (Hank) O. and Ora D. Fischer. The Fischer Family owned and operated a 10-acre farm and a roadside produce stand across the street from Monona golf course in Monona, WI.

Emmy graduated from Madison East High School in 1952. In October 1954, Emmy married Bille F. Alford and the couple had two daughters, Lisa E. (nee Alford) Guercio, (husband, Joseph), Trinity, FL and Beth L. Alford of Clearwater, FL.

Emmy met and fell in love with, the last love of her life, Marvin O. Volenberg, (Mike) at Leske’s Supper Club in Monona, WI. Mike and Emmy married on April 24, 1981 and started their new life together in Clearwater, FL. They spent their early retirement enjoying cruises, traveling to various timeshares, playing golf at their retirement community and playing cards. They were active in their church. Emmy and Mike loved to entertain family and friends, and good food and laughter was always involved. Emmy’s retirement was brief as she was never one to sit still and wait. She became a successful realtor in the Clearwater area for many years working for Charles Rutenberg Realty, Inc., and Coldwell Banker. One of Emmy’s proudest achievements was rising to “Million Dollar Sales Agent”. Emmy gave retirement another chance in 2019 at the age of 85.

Emmy and Mike shared thirty-nine years together and their blended family enjoyed special moments throughout their marriage that created lasting memories.

Emmy is survived her two daughters, Lisa (Joseph Guercio) and Beth Alford. Two brothers, Robert C. Fischer (Valla) of DeLand, FL and William J. Fischer. Two grandchildren, three step-children, six step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; parents, Herman and Ora Fischer and brother Herman (Hank) Fischer.

Her daughters wish to thank Suncoast Hospice Care Center North Pinellas for all of their compassionate care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be offered to Suncoast Hospice Care Center North Pinellas, in their mother’s name.

Private services will be held at a later date. Sylvan Abbey in Clearwater is assisting the family.
