Ann's obituary

Ann Jensvold, 99, died July 14, 2021, in Lincoln, CA where she lived since 2002.

Ann was born January 6, 1922, in Junction City, Kansas, to William (Dirk) and Margaret (Peg) van Ingen. Ann’s father was an officer in the US Cavalry who later ran riding programs throughout the Northeast US. Ann and her younger brother, Bill, spent extended time with their grandparents and many cousins. At 10 years old, Ann spent a delightfully independent summer at her grandmother’s house in Newport, Rhode Island – free of her parents’ strict supervision.

Ann earned a BS in Textile Design from Drexel University and MS in Home Economics from University of Minnesota. She worked for Simplicity Patterns in NYC and the NJ Cooperative Extension Service. She had a confident, adventurous spirit driving to the West Coast and back in 1952. In 1953, at the age of 31, Ann married Robert (Bob) Jensvold, subsequently living in NJ (1953-1961), King of Prussia PA (1961-1966), Orange CA (1966-2002), and Lincoln CA (2002-2021).

Ann raised four independent daughters, all of whom earned advanced degrees and succeeded in their respective fields of medicine, business, computers, and law.

While Ann seldom offered opinions, she was unfailingly cheerful, friendly, helpful, encouraging and supportive. She had a broad circle of friends and contacts in her community, actively participating in church, bridge groups, clubs (cross-stitch, stamps, prayer shawl ministry and Bosom Buddies) and Girl Scouts. Living in Sun City kept Ann physically and mentally healthy – and she was able to live in on her own, in her own home, past her 99th birthday.

Ann is survived by 3 daughters and their spouses, Betsy Jensvold & Ed Wojeck (Reno, NV), Susan & David Slaughter (Davis, CA), and Judy & Tom Thomas (Carmichael, CA); 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Jensvold; brother, Bill van Ingen; daughter, Margy Jensvold; and a grandson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday August 28th 11:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church in Lincoln, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Lincoln, CA (www.stjameslincoln.org) or her daughter’s non-profit, that helps people live well in during serious illness, the Coalition for Compassionate Care of CA (www.coalitionccc.org)

Condolences may be sent to Betsy Jensvold, PO Box 100, Virginia City, NV 89440; (907)209-9808.
