Elvin's obituary

Elvin Clarkson went home to heaven on October 11,2023, at age 87.

Elvin was born to Orla and Elise Clarkson on July 23, 1936, in Furnace Co, Nebraska. As a child, Elvin's parents brought him to Idaho before he was six months old. Elvin met his wife, Patty Rumiser in 1951 at Greenleaf Friends Academy. They married in New Plymouth, ID, May 28,1956, and went on to have 4 children, Joy Darlene, Jonathon Darrell, Jerry Dean and Carol Louise.

In Elvin's youth his family moved many times around the Melba Idaho area, Elvin stayed in the Melba and Nampa area until he went to Greenleaf Friends Academy. Elvin has lived in many more places including Tamarack, Meadows, McCall, Ogden UT and Logan UT, in 1970 he moved his family to North Idaho, in the area of Hayden, moving to Rockaway, OR in 1983, after working at Twin Rocks Friends Camp, Elvin and Pat travel to many church camps. Elvin and Pat then lived in Payette ID, before moving into assisted living in Nampa.

Elvin worked as a young man de-tasseling corn, milking cows, in an ice cream factory, and did many jobs in a sawmill from pulling logs on the log pond to the planer line to a lead saw man, when he moved to North Idaho, he started building houses soon learned that he enjoyed installing exterior siding. He started his own siding company installing mostly cedar siding inside and out of many buildings in Coeur d' Alene area. Elvin was a Maintenance man at Twin Rocks Friends camp. He said that he built more bunk beds than he thought was possible as a volunteer at various church camps across the Western United States both on their own and with the Sowers group.

Elvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Rock hounding became one of his favorite hobbies, he was often heard saying that "rock hounding kept the family together". Elvin also had a wonderful tenor voice and loved to sing especially the old Church Hymns. He sang for many Cantatas, with a barbershop group. Elvin sang hymns all night before his passing. Throughout his life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.

Elvin was proceeded in heavenly graduation by His parents Orla in1959, Elsie in 1979, his wife Patty(Pat) in 2021, son Jonathon in 1959, Daughter Joy in 2018, and sister Becky in 2019.

He is survived by Brother Melvin (Anne), Son Jerry (Kerri), Daughter Carol (Steve), 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

We will come together to celebrate Elvin's graduation into heaven as he wished, on Nov 4th 2023 at 3:00 pm, Meridian Friends Church, 1021 Pine Ave., Meridian , ID 83642. His family would love to have you join us for a time of sharing memories of Elvin's life.
