Reverend Eloise Rumph, the daughter of Ranger Canty Sr. and Margaret Richardson Canty was born in Sumpter, SC. Reverend Rumph is one of six children born of this union. During the Great Migration, her family relocated to New York City. She later settled in the Bronx and attended public school there. She worked as the lead upholsterer at Karl Mann Associates for many years until she retired and later married and had four beautiful daughters. Eloise rededicated her life to Christ and she and her family began attending Cross Road Baptist Church. She accepted the call on her life into ministry and attended New York Theological Seminary where she studied Theology. Eloise was ordained as a reverend by Reverend Thomas Davis. She spent many years serving through prayer, ministering in prisons, hospitals, and nursing homes, and providing resources and food for underserved communities. She taught Sunday school, facilitated prayer meetings, and led scores of people to Christ through her ministry. Eloise was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She played a very important role in the lives of her family and was her family’s matriarch and queen. Eloise was an elegant woman, prayer warrior, exquisite dresser, and (it was once said) she wore the highest heels in church at the age of eighty. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: One brother Gregory Canty; Four daughters, Teena Scurry, Darlene Rich, Ramona Clements, and Danielle Clements; Eleven grandchildren Imani S., Rashad H., Errol R. Jr, John S., Remi C., Michael R., Dhaelon W., Isaiah S., Rhaemond W., Justin C., and Mia C.; Eight great-grandchildren: Ariana H., Christian H., Amari H., Eli H., Jackson S., Marley S., Jaden S., and Makayla R. and a host of cousins, loved ones and friends.
