Elmo's obituary

Mo Kroner, age 82, passed away peacefully due to complications of Lewy Body Dementia on Saturday, December 16, 2017, in Independence, MO.

Mo was born on June 23, 1935 in Moberly MO to Elmo Anthony Kroner Sr. and Helen Elizabeth (Miller) Kroner. He graduated from Missouri University and married Sharon Maxey (born as Sharon Lee Kessler) on May 24, 1958. Together they had two daughters and enjoyed over 59 years of marriage. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1961 including a tour of duty in Korea. Mo had a life-long career in the insurance industry and retired from Wausau Insurance Company in 1996.

Mo enjoyed running “before running was cool!” and participated in 5 marathons and numerous half-marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. He had a life-long love of cars and Suzuki-style motorcycles. He read and logged over 1,000 fictional novels and loved watching his grandchildren play sports. When squirrels began gnawing on his house, Mo found great pleasure in trapping, logging and relocating 363 of them to Lake Jacomo (along with a few rabbits, snakes and chipmunks).

Mo is preceded in death by his parents and half-brother Donald Joseph Kroner of Kansas City.

Mo is survived by his wife Sharon of Independence, MO; his two daughters and their husbands Julie and Dan Garland of Webster Groves MO and Stacy and Tom Ernst of Kansas City MO; and his grandchildren Shane, Jamie and Sydney Garland and Jake, Max and Joseph Ernst.

Mo touched us all with his charming playful sense of humor and his sweet endearing nature. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have him in their lives.

A 9:00 visitation and 10:00 funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 23rd at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence at 3736 S Lee’s Summit Road and interment will occur at a private graveside service in Moberly MO.

Mo’s family offers many thanks to the staff at The Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Care for their loving attention to his needs. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to further Lewy Body Dementia research at www.lbda.org.
