Elmo LeRoy (Lee) Bumgarner passed away on June 16. 2019. At the time of his death he resided in Holtzville, NY with his wife, of 45 years, Maureen. Born in Lynchburg VA, to Lonnie & Dorothy Bumgarner, Lee grew up in Bedford County graduating from Bedford High School in 1960. He was an active member of Hickory Grove Methodist Church, the 4-H, and the DeMolay. While in high school he joined the Naval Reserve upon graduation he was offered a spot at Officer's Candidate school due to his ASVAB scores but he refused it, much to his father's dismay. However, Lee went on to serve in the US Navy for 20 years, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-4. He received many commendations and awards during his Naval career. Upon retiring from the Navy Lee went on to a second career with various National Defense contractors retiring in 2012. He is survived by his wife Maureen, 4 children Heather Carey, Caroline Bowers (Grant), David Bumgarner, and Lisa Balestracci, a sister, Shirley Gill (Dick)and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
