Ellen Sonafrank Benton, of Reinholds, PA., died at home following a three-year battle with cholangiocarcinoma, on Nov. 13, 2018.

Ellen was born on Dec. 29, 1948 in Nokesville, VA. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Robert (Bob) Benton, and her children Kirsten Johnson, Heidi Rochlin, Nels Benton, and Robert Benton, Jr. She has seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Della Sonafrank; her brother Edward Sonafrank, and sisters Eloise Smith, and Karen Currence. She is survived by her sisters Nancy Tiller and Vera Frazier.

Ellen taught classroom music in the School District of Philadelphia for 38 years. She conducted choral and handbell choirs. She was also the Minister of Music at Grace Lutheran Church in Norristown, PA. She was an accomplished musician, and graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University. She also earned a master’s degree from Villanova University. Ellen loved spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren, music, Christmas decorations, and high-heel shoes.

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Norristown, 506 Haws Ave., Norristown, PA., 19401. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation: https://cholangiocarcinoma.or….
