Ellen Jane Beals
Ellen “Jane” Beals (Cook) born October 17,1933 to Raymond and Ethel Cook (Mahan) in Miamisburg Ohio died on January 29, 2024, in Lake Barrington, IL at the age of 90.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, her sons, Richard Nathan Jr (Loretta) W. Carrollton OH, James Allen (Cheryl) Round Lake Beach IL, and Steven Ray (Mary) Viola IL, a daughter, Barbara Jane (Michael) Beals-Elkins, Palatine IL, sister in law, Alma Schneider(Beals) Circleville OH, 7 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
Jane married Richard Nathan Beals “Dick” June 13, 1954 in Miamisburg Ohio. Jane was a multi-talented go getter type mother, handywoman, decorator, tractor driver, even a tree house builder.
Dick was a long-time member of the Rotary Club. When living in Palatine he served as the Governor in 1992-1993 with Rolling Meadows 6440 District. Jane assisted, organized, entertained, and typed as needed for conventions, meetings, and fun events. They developed great friendships and many rich travel experiences around the world. Dick and Jane were a Rotary powerhouse couple.
She was an incredibly involved grandmother who created endless joyful memories: boating, skiing, Santa’s Village, Ravinia, garage sales, rock beach, museums, parks, etc. Many family reunions were organized with matching shirts and group photos. Most included traveling, from a Metro ride to Chicago, Indiana Sand Dunes, DC, Miamisburg Ohio, to the gulf coast of Florida. She loved to share her skills at cards, scrabble, and shopping. Her exceptional cooking and baking made all family gatherings extra special. Lasagna, Crab casserole, fresh pasta, Aunt Mary’s Cookies, Rykes Cake.
Preceded in death by a daughter Susan Kay, grand daughter Jennifer Joy, Sister Phyllis Diver, Brother Kenneth Cook, sister-in-law, Martha (Beals)Mackey, Sally Beals, brother in laws, John Beals and Robert Schneider.
Burial to be in Miamisburg Ohio at a date to be determined later. In leu of flowers, donations can be given to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or your local Rotary Club.
