Betty was my mother, how could I not think about her?  She was my first Girl Scout leader, one of my first memories comes to her face and she was one of my best friends, ever.
She was my age.  Gone but not forgotten.
Betty and Corliss worked closely with me at Peoples’ Church in East Lansing for 10 years.  1985- 1995.   I was Associate Pastor.  They were very dedicated to each other and to the church.

I was thinking about Betty and am just learning that she has joined Corliss as a heavenly angel.

My heart is very heavy as I remember her. Betty was an "encourager" for me.  She encouraged me to run for the Michigan Capital Girl Scouts board of directors,  and to become its Board President, she then encouraged me to help her with the national "Scouts on Survival Program" and train the attendees from around the country in skill development and teamwork, and she encouraged me to allow her to nominate me for the  National Board of GSUSA, where I   served for  9 years.

She also encouraged me to join Peoples Church and introduced me to Dr. Murdock who, like I, had attended Furman University.

In so many ways, Betty added joy, opportunity, and fun to my life. Her legacy is rich and significant in terms of service to others. May her family hold fast and cherish her rich heritage of giving to others.

You have my deepest sympathy for your loss of Betty and her beloved Corliss!

I met Betty through her daughter, Phyllis, with whom I was in high school. She made me feel welcome in their home and I wish I'd gotten to know her better.
