Elizabeth's obituary
Elizabeth Susan Martinez passed away in Maricopa, Arizona, surrounded by her family.
Born in Yuma, Arizona, on August 3, 1954, Elizabeth was a proud native of her community. She was a proud Yuma High School Criminal, graduating with the class of '72, a pride she carried with her throughout her life. In her younger years, Elizabeth worked at the local Wienerschnitzel in the '70s, a memory she recalled with fondness, boasting that she still knew the chili recipe. Though she held many jobs throughout her life, she always talked about these early experiences.
Elizabeth worked for the State of Arizona for over 20 years. She served her community through the DES for seven years before transferring to ALTCS, retiring after her time with the state. In the '90s, she began volunteering with the Yuma Police Department's ride-along program. She proudly shared the story of receiving an award from the YPD for assisting in an armed robbery with anyone and everyone. While her role as a wife and mother came first, she loved her time volunteering with the YPD.
Elizabeth was, as some may describe, a complicated woman. She had her ways as we all do, but she was kind and generous to those she loved. She never wanted anyone to be hungry, and if you asked, she fed you. She loved to cook and was always eager to share recipes and try new culinary creations.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Angelique, and son-in-law, Dennis; her two granddaughters, Diamonique and Veronique; and three great-grandchildren, who will miss their "Nanita."
Elizabeth's private cremation and the spreading of her ashes have been fulfilled. The family asks that if you would like to remember her, please light a white candle in her memory.
