Background
An individual full scholarship at the Sewickley Academy with a focus on the performing arts in a highly progressive and nurturing academic environment.
Betsy's son, Henry, was instrumental in establishing this scholarship in order that a student develop through dance, acting, and stagecraft, a confidence in ones abilities to face life’s challenges.
The scholarship commemorates the life and career of Mario Melodia, who had a hand in choreographing and directing 65 productions over his 40 years at Sewickley Academy. Melodia was named the Sewickley Herald's Man of the Year in 1988.
Henry Shenk said he wanted to start a scholarship in Melodia's name to commemorate the legacy of the faculty member, all while continuing to support and encourage students who are involved in the performing arts at the school.
