Elizabeth Carol Shank, 85, of Albemarle, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center. Carol was born on April 28, 1939, in Union County to the late Lonnie Winfred James and the late Lila Newsome James. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Carleson Shank, and her sister Brenda Foster (Carroll). Survivors include her son, Randy Shank (Carol), of Albemarle, NC; granddaughter Morgan Sanghrajka (Sameep) of Charlotte, NC; grandson Ryan Shank (Maddie) of Apex, NC; and one great-granddaughter Charlie. She is also survived by one brother, Lewis James (Brenda), of Albemarle, and many nieces and nephews.

Carol worked most of her professional life at Bear Insurance Agency in Albemarle, where she was an insurance representative for over 25 years. She enjoyed interacting with her customers and always loved a good laugh. She was a faithful Christian and always kept her Bible close at hand. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is in heaven with her husband and other family members who have gone before her.

The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the staff at Tillery Compassionate Care for their dedicated service these past few months. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center. Carol, or Elizabeth as she was known there, lived her last 3 and ½ years being loved and cared for by many members of the staff during her time there. We deeply appreciate all the time they spent with her, laughing and joking to make her stay easier to bear.

In accordance with her wishes, Carol will be cremated, and her ashes will be placed with her husband at a later date. No formal service will be held, but the family requests that you have a good laugh and a chuckle to honor her memory.
