Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Johnson (née Illies), 90, of Mound, Minn., recently a resident of Lake Minnetonka Shores, Spring Park, peacefully passed away Tuesday, May 10, with family by her side.
Betty was born in Minneapolis to Bernard and Agnes Illies, on October 12, 1931. She was their first daughter. Ben and Agnes had 11 children altogether.
The Illies family moved to Mound, Minn., in 1942 and eventually started an excavation business called Illies and Sons. Betty attended Mound schools.
Betty married Robert (Bob) Emil Johnson, of Mound, on April 23, 1949. Two years later a daughter was born, Wendy (Paul) Lewin, and then another daughter in 1953, Shelley (Jim) Tuttle, a son in 1954, Scott (Lenda) Johnson, a son in 1957, Kelly (Veronica) Johnson, and a daughter in 1959, Robin Johnson.
Her gift with numbers, having graduated from the Minneapolis School of Business was warranted her the role of bookkeeper for Bob Johnson Oil Co. She golfed for many years with Lakeview Ladies League, Orono. She also enjoyed boating on Lake Minnetonka. Betty and Bob spent over 30 winters in Phoenix, Ariz.
Preceded in death by her husband Bob (Tub), Betty is survived by her five children named above; 16 grandchildren: Jonathan (Jessica) Lewin, Spencer (Katy) Lewin, and Niles (Liz) Lewin; Nathan Tuttle, Emily (Ludwig) von Gohren, Peter (Sarahi) Tuttle, Mark (Nicole) Tuttle, Philip Tuttle, David (Sarah) Tuttle, Bethany (Rob) Moore, and April Tuttle; Heather Johnson, Anna (Alex) Altman, and Jacob Johnson; Sam (Anna) Johnson and Kia (Clay) Gruber; 24 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brother Roger Illies and sister Diane Illies.
