Elizabeth's obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Bonker passed away August 10, 2024 in Cleburne, TX.

Betty was the youngest of five children born to Adrian (Ed) and Dorothy Dykstra on June 24, 1940 in Hartley, IA. Betty met her husband, Leonard Bonker, when they both attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA. They had two children, Dwayne of Hammonton, NJ, and Leigh Van Gilst of Joshua, TX.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Leonard who passed away November 30, 2022, as well as her parents and siblings. In addition to her children, survivors include five grandchildren: Brian (Christina) Bonker, Lisa (Tim) Vernon, Melissa (Timothy) Caddell, Lindsay (Christopher) White and Kate (Drew) Smith; and two treasured great-grandchildren: Cayden and Ivy Smith. Also surviving her are brother-in-law, Jack (Eileen) Bonker, sister-in-law, Barbara Dykstra, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty and Leonard were avid travelers, airplane enthusiasts, and Green Bay Packer fans. Both were lifelong teachers who had a great impact on so many students in Albia, IA and in Brownsville and LaFeria, TX. Their legacy will continue to live on in the lives of their students and family.
