Bettie was my aunt, but more like a Mom. She was 16 when I born and taught me what unconditional love is. She was always my cheerleader And kept me sane during rough times. She called me “my Donna Girl” my whole life. We spent hours playing Yahtzee. She made me laugh all the time. She loved the holidays and having her family together. She made the best sauerkraut and dumplings and chicken and noodles. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
Your mom met the Tapio’s when I was in 4th grade, my mom had roasted a turkey for your grandma Rose when your grandpa died. Your mom came over with your dad to pick up the Turkey and that’s when we met your beautiful mom. Your mom loved my mom from that moment and never stopped loving her. I use to go over to your mom and dad’s when he worked nights and she we played rummy she taught me that card game. Your mom was expecting Robbie. I always told your mom that she was like a big sister to me. The Tapio’s dearly loved your mom and I know that my parents and brother and Adam welcomed her into heaven with open arms and love.
Dear Dave and family, Most beautiful obituary I have ever read. It is all Betty through and through. Seventy plus years of friendship. The last visit with her, she was laughing soo hard. We talked about all the silly things we did growing up together. Those memories will always be a part of me.
I have known my second parents for 24 years out of those 24 years. I was there neighbor for 16 years . The first time that I did there snow . Betty came out side and said were in the hell is your coat and I said it’s in the house she always would yell at me if I didn’t have it on. For approximately 10 years out of the 16 years that were my neighbors.I invited them over for Xmas eve every year they fell in love with my parents Italian sausage and peppers amongst other food they were like my second parents.Plus when my son Tom was in kindergarten she would babysit Tom until I would get home from work as well. …… My thoughts & prayers are with the family. Love you mom your resting in heaven with your parents and your guardian angels. Love you Betty. ……. Tom Incontro
Bettie was my godmother, she was always so kind and thoughtful. When i graduated high school and college she made me these beautiful nik naks to just being thoughtful every time she would hear about something good i did. Like this picture for example she had it developed and sent to me. Being able to stay in touch with here thru facebook was great. I appreciate all the things she did for me. My condolences to the Holmes family.
When we heard about Bettie passing my mind raced back to 1962 when I first met you. We were just south Omaha boys getting in trouble. Then the girls showed up from Ryan High and South High. The rest is history. To your entire family. We were so blessed to have Bettie in our lives and the friendship and comfort Bettie gave to Tap and Jean during their time on earth. Carol and I wish you to know. That we have the greatest love and respect for you Daivd and your loving wife. May she be visiting Jean right now and the two of them sharing an Irish Cream. Love Rich and Carol Tapio
I was shocked when I read Bettie on Facebook. We’ve never met but know we were cousins through my Dad’s side of the family. Dad’s family had lived in different parts of Nebraska though mostly in Furnas County. I will have to work on this with my genealogy work. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I pray she’s at peace. God Bless her and the family! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm so thankful we took that photo together, as it will always remind me of the FUN, love and warmth Bettie shared with everyone. She was dancing in the middle of Center Street. Always smiling, always wanting to talk to everyone. I've known Bettie as long as I've known Jeannie - since 8th grade, and she was truly like another mom to me growing up. I always felt right at home when I visited - should have visited more in the recent years because she always asked me to. Love you Bettie - and much love to all the family.
