Elijah's obituary
Elijah Emmanuel Rufus, 19, was taken from this world too soon on February 15, 2023. Elijah was born on June 26, 2003 to Roshanda Casteel and Rasson Rufus at Long Beach Memorial Hospital in Long Beach. Elijah was the eldest of 7 children and his younger siblings looked up to him in every way. Throughout his short life, Elijah carried himself with jubilant energy and positivity. His infectious smile filled every room he walked into. He was impossible not to love.
Throughout the years, he acquired many friends that were drawn to his outgoing personality and witty remarks. He would always be showing his unique dance moves at events, bringing life to everyone around him. He had a smile that could light up a room, and a laugh that would rub off on others around him. His positive spirit allowed him to take life's challenges in stride. He expressed himself with creativity and passion. Elijah was a profound member of his community, both amongst his peers and mentors.
Elijah was a young man that just wanted to have fun. He wanted to love and be loved. He dreamed of the future and envisioned himself as a rapper, a YouTube star, an architect, contractor, selling real estate, buying cars, living the dream. But ultimately his biggest dream was to provide for his family, his brothers and sisters, his mama, his Aunties.
Elijah made lifelong impressions on many people. He lived on “The Elijah Show,” as his mom liked to tease, with his larger-than-life personality. His birth made public news and his star continued to shine bright for the next 19 years. He fell in love easily and saw the goodness in everyone. He loved music, dancing, goofing off with friends, and having a good time.
Elijah's life ended too soon. His presence is still felt deeply by the many people that loved him. He is survived by his mother, Roshanda, his father, Rassan, his 4 younger brothers, 2 younger sisters, and a host of family and friends. He will be deeply missed by many, and remembered as a happy, playful and spontaneous young man. Elijah will always be a son, brother, nephew, cousin, and great friend.
