Eleanor Jean (Pickering) McPartlin, 84, a resident of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, died Sunday, January 26, 2020 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. Born in Cumberland, Maryland on April 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Isabel (Ewen) Pickering. The family moved to Baldwin, NY in 1946 where Ellie attended school with her older brother, Charlie, whom she adored. She had a beautiful singing voice, participating in the Chorileers throughout her high school years. She graduated from Baldwin High School, went on to attend Business/Secretarial school, followed by employment at a printing firm in Mineola, NY where she met her future husband, Jerry. They married in 1955 and moved across the country to San Francisco, California. Their return cross-country trip with friends included stories that were told for years to come. They settled in Long Island, NY (and later, in Davenport, NY) welcoming 5 children along the way, enjoying a life that included family and lifelong friends. Ellie will always be remembered for her unfailing kindness, her tenacity and strength in the face of adversity.
A beloved wife and mother, she leaves five children, Colleen (Warren) Haggerty, Bow, NH, James (Michael Casey) McPartlin, NY, NY, Joan (Daniel) Block, Seattle, WA., Patrick McPartlin, Middlegrove, NY, and Amy (Steven) Miller, Chelmsford, MA., nine grandchildren, Patrick (Molly) Haggerty, Kathleen (Michael) Kenyon, Erin Haggerty, Connor Block, Lauren Block, Christopher McPartlin, Michael McPartlin, Jacob Miller and Ryan Miller. Her husband of 43 years, Gerald G. McPartlin, infant daughter, Joanne, and her brother Charles S. Pickering predeceased her. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford, MA.
