Eleanor's obituary

Sister Eleanor McGill (née Dixon), a cherished pillar of her community and beloved family matriarch, peacefully entered eternal rest on December 19, 2023. Born in July 1945 in Flomaton, AL, to Clifton and Inez (née Howard) Dixon, she was a beacon of strength, care, and compassion from her early years, growing up as a dedicated caregiver to her siblings. Her compassionate nature led her to a fulfilling career in nursing, following her graduation from Southern Normal in Brewton.

Preceding her in passing were her parents; siblings Lily McCory, Vinnee’y Dees, Minnie Golsten, Elbert Dixon, Roosevelt Dixon Sr. (survived by Barbara), Bernard Dixon Sr., Jimmy Dixon Sr., and William Dixon; and her beloved son, Leonard Dixon.

Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her husband of over 50 years, Michael McGill; her children Clifton Dixon, Taijuana Dixon, Regina (Cleo) Frye, and Jessica Black; sisters Callie (Charles) Washington and Inez Blair, one devoted sister-in-law, Barbara A. Dixon; fourteen grandchildren – Veronica, Felicia, Derek, Alana, Shaterane, Trinity, Trey, MaKayla, Jada, Jalyn, NaKhya, Leila, and David; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Her life was a vibrant mosaic of faith, family, and culture. A spirit anchored in her relationship with God shone through in her love for singing, dancing, and worship. Her love for gardening, reading, fashion, and music, especially her joy in attending concerts reflect a rich tapestry of interests and passions. Above all, the cherished moments she created with loved ones are her lasting legacy.

Her life, marked by love, faith, and kindness, leaves a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
