Eldon's obituary

Eldon Delos Yuly, age 87, of Kirkland, Washington passed away peacefully in the evening of Monday November 24, 2025. After a brief, hard fight against leukemia, Eldon died within his cherished home surrounded by his beloved wife Janice, children (Mark and Lynda), and grandson Ben. His death has left a tremendous hole in the hearts of his family and he will be greatly missed.

Eldon was born on September 16, 1938 in Minot, North Dakota to Portia and Russell Yuly. He was born along with his twin sister, Carol, and was one of nine children. When he was two years old, Eldon’s mother traveled by train with him and five of his siblings to Kirkland, Washington where his father was already working at the shipyard. Eldon loved Kirkland and referred to it as “the best place to live” and continued to live there for the rest of his life.

Eldon graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1956. He continued his education at Northwest Nazarene College for two years. He then joined the Navy and served for four years during the Vietnam War. During this time, he met the love of his life and sweetheart, Janice. They were married at Christmas time on December 21, 1963. They later had their two beloved children Mark Yuly and Lynda Ferrara.

After leaving the service, Eldon returned home and worked for Boeing. He later worked for Safeway and retired from there in 1999.

Eldon loved working with his hands. He was always keeping himself busy with different projects both inside his home and outside and could often be found building something new. His grandchildren have sweet memories of building bird houses from scraps of wood with him. He loved to wake up early and drink a cup of Starbucks coffee while walking around Lake Washington. He especially loved it when his son, Mark, was in town and could join him in this morning routine. He was a quiet and gentle man who sacrificed for others behind the scenes. He loved making people smile and always had a quick, witty joke or practical joke.

Above all, Eldon was a devout believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Although he was a quiet man, he led and guided his family through the Christian walk by his faithfulness and example. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior where he no longer feels any pain. One of his favorite hymns, “Because He Lives” describes it best when it says, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future. And life is worth the living just because He lives”. During this time of sadness and loss, Eldon’s family holds tightly the promises of God written in this hymn.

Eldon is preceded in death by parents, Portia and Russel Yuly; brothers, Russell (Duane) Yuly, Darrell Yuly, Rix Yuly, and Don Yuly; Sister, Wyota Yuly; and Granddaughter Esther Yuly.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Yuly of Kirkland, WA; children, Mark Yuly (Robin) of Houghton, NY, Lynda Ferrara (Peter) of Kirkland, WA; 7 grandchildren; sister Carol Thompson; brothers Dan Yuly and Gene Yuly; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 6, 2025 from 2-4PM at Eldon and Janice’s home in Kirkland. Anyone who knew Eldon is welcome to stop by and celebrate his life and legacy.
