Elbert's obituary
Born in Rumford, Maine he was the son of George Bertrand Sr & Bessie Marion (Libby) Hopkins.
He served as Infantryman, Private E-1 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968 with 10 months overseas. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star and the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal.
He worked as building maintenance and manager in the Norway, Maine area for 24 years before retiring.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor, his laugh, saying whatever was on his mind, his tips and tricks of his trade, and his love for fishing.
He is survived by his son Walter Hopkins & wife Carol Martin of Oxford, Maine; daughter Jennifer Maddocks & life partner Christopher Chamberlain of Rumford, Maine; daughter Renee Hopkins of New York; son Renee Ranger of Texas; grandson Damien & wife Montana Hopkins of Oxford, Maine; granddaughter Haylee Hopkins of Oxford, Maine; grandson Shawn Gallant of Rumford, Maine; grandson Craig J. Chamberlain of Bozeman, MT; granddaughter Paige Shaver of Choteau, MT; grandson Josh Shaver of Troy, MT; granddaughter Sierra Shaver-Chamberlain of Rumford, Maine; Three great grandchildren; sister Joy Hopkins of Olympia, WA; brother Earl Hopkins & wife Rose Buck of Albany, Maine; brother Bernard Hopkins of Lewiston, Maine; brother Clyde Hopkins of Lewiston, Maine; brother Martin Jones of New Hampshire ; Niece Debra Hopkins of Salem, OR; Anita Lester of Woodland, WA; Glen Hopkins of Vancouver, WA
He is predeceased by his parents George Sr. & Bessie Hopkins, brother Chester Hopkins, brother Willard Hopkins, George Hopkins Jr. , Charles Hopkins, sister Luanne Stiles.
At his request we will be having a Celebration of Life on July 12th from 2pm - 5pm at the home of 717 South Rumford Rd, Rumford, ME.
