Elaine was born in the Imperial Valley, California, in the town of Brawley. She was the middle of three children born to Takeo ‘Harry’ and Shizuko ‘Helen’ Momita. Elaine spent her childhood in the Valley where she went to school and worked the newsstand and soda fountain at her parent's neighborhood pharmacy. It was during this …
