Elaine's obituary
Elaine was born in the Imperial Valley, California, in the town of Brawley. She was the middle of three children born to Takeo ‘Harry’ and Shizuko ‘Helen’ Momita. Elaine spent her childhood in the Valley where she went to school and worked the newsstand and soda fountain at her parent's neighborhood pharmacy. It was during this time that Elaine was also relocated to Poston Internment Camp during her formative teenage years, forging lifelong friends and memories.
After the War, Elaine met and married the love of her life, Sam Morinaga. The couple settled down in Long Beach and later Cypress, CA where they raised their daughter and spent many happy years together.
Elaine was a survivor, ‘tough as nails'. She experienced the devastating loss of her right leg to cancer while just a teenager, but never let that stop her from living a full life. In her later years, she remained fiercely independent despite the loss of Sam and her physical limitations. She fought until the very end, and now can finally rest in peace.
Elaine often said that her mouth “had no filter”; a fact which caused Elaine much trouble and regret through the years. But those who took the time to truly know and understand her, know that her heart was genuine. She could ‘gab’ with the best of ‘em, talk up a storm, and was one of the funniest ladies you’ll ever meet.
She loved watching television; from sitcoms to game shows to crime drama, she watched it all. She loved rooting for her local sports teams! She had a voracious appetite for all things take-out. She was savvy beyond her years at the computer. She had beautiful handwriting. She was always thankful and appreciative.
May you rest in peace, Elaine.
