Eileen's obituary
Eileen R. Murray was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She died peacefully on July 9, 2023, in Corvallis, Oregon surrounded by family at the age of 76.
Eileen was born to John and Margaret O’Conner on December 14, 1946. Coming from a large family of twelve siblings, Eileen often cared for many of her younger brothers and sisters. Eileen made the natural transition as a young adult to continue caring for others and became a nurse. As a nurse working in Chicago, she met Gerald Murray and was married on November 11, 1971. They were married for 29 years and had three children, Vincent, Margaret, and Bridget. In addition to raising a family, Eileen continued to be a private duty nurse and cared for the elderly in the later stages of their lives. Eileen concluded her nursing career by caring for two special young men as they attended high school. In 2011, Elieen retired and moved to Corvallis, Oregon to be closer to her daughters.
Eileen was a devout Catholic who prioritized her family and friends. She was happiest when she was caring for those around her. Whether it was as an older sister in a large family, as a nurse, a loving wife, a mother to three children, a grandmother to seven grandchildren, or a friend to turn to when someone was in need; Eileen often prioritized others above herself. She lived and led with a servant’s heart and a desire to care for those with whom she came into contact.
Eileen is survived by her children Vincent and Julie (Miller) Murray, Margaret (Murray) and Adrian Kriz, and Bridget Murray and David Remillard, her seven grandchildren, Emily, Colin, Megan, Liam, and Katherine Murray and Alex and Sahalie Kriz, as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Murray, her parents, John and Margaret (Neylon) O’Connor, her sister Bridget (O’Connor) Ward, her brothers Joseph O’Connor, James O’Connor, and William O’Connor.
Visitation will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Gurnee, IL from 9 am - 11 am on August 7, 2023. The funeral mass will begin at 11 am and the burial to follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
