Effie when she met up with me…

Effie when she met up with me in July of 2018. Effie was always so beautiful, inside and out. I have been thinking about her so much these days. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones for January 8, 2023, and as the days continue to pass, may they get easier and kinder to all who love and miss her. ❤️

I haven’t been ready to say goodbye until now. I am grateful for the times we spent together as a family; our family will forever miss their Aunt Effie!  All the family dinners, Christmas mornings, birthday parties and beach weeks will be less without your smiling face and good food!  We hold Andrew and Melina close and will love you forever.  Diane, Mike, Sarah, Laura and Ryan

Andrew and Melina, I am so sorry for your loss. Effie was a shining star, and will be missed by many. Wishing you peace, love, and hopefully joy in your memories of her. She lives on through you, and may her love and power continue to be with you always.

Effie was a generous mentor, inspirational collaborator, and friend to me since the day I landed at the Smithsonian five years ago. Recently, when I was ready-to-pop pregnant, she took me out for ice cream, and we had a special conversation about becoming moms at 40. She showed me a video she loved of Melina as a baby giggling uncontrollably. Effie lifted me up, and so many others.
