Edwin's obituary
A loving dad, paw paw, son, brother, and friend, Edwin David “Dave” Ward, 73, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at his residence in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Mr. Ward was born on August 15, 1947 in Cleburne, TX but lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA, only recently moving to Alexandria to help care for his mother. In Lake Charles, he was a devoted employee of Farmer’s Rice Milling Company, where he worked as an electrician and later as a process automation supervisor for nearly 40 years. Mr. Ward was also a proud Army Veteran, having served two tours in Vietnam from 1967-1969 and earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Roger and Joyce Henderson Ward; twin siblings, Bronson Michael and Sarah Frances Ward; and his loyal dogs Weasel and Biscuit.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Sarah Frances Ward Sullivan; sister, Betty Lou McCormick, brothers Billy Walter Ward and wife Jenney, Tommy Lee Ward and wife Dawn; son-in-law, David Sullivan; and grandsons, William Patrick Sullivan and Matthew David Sullivan.
Mr. Ward’s remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery at a yet to be determined date. As a way to honor two of Mr. Ward’s biggest points of pride, his service to the United States Military and his dogs, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Freedom Service Dogs of America (https://freedomservicedogs.org ), a non-profit that trains dogs as service animals for people with disabilities and veterans with PTSD.
