Edwin's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin "Wayne" Smithwick, born on January 3, 1946, who went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 2, 2024. Known to many as Wayne, he was a beacon of strength, wisdom and humor in our lives.
Wayne leaves behind his beloved daughters, Tammy Flores, Debbie Estrada-Escobar, and Holly Fernandez, his sister Linda Hopkins, brother-in-law Jerry Hopkins and brother Steve Smithwick. He also leaves an lasting mark on the lives of his step-children: Gina Anoceto, John Jones, Robert Boike, John Boike, and Jacki Wallace along with many grandchildren, great-grand children and nieces and nephews. He also leaves his adorable friend and companion Buddy (his dog), that he loved so much. His undying spirit is carried forward by these loved ones and the many more lives he touched throughout his time with us.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Carol Smithwick, his grandson Daniel Fernandez, his parents, Edwin L Smithwick and Magdalene Smithwick, and his step-sons Glenn Boike and Ronald Jones who were all there to greet him at the gates of heaven.
Wayne’s personality was a delightful blend of humor, kindness, intelligence and strength. He had this innate ability to light up any room he entered with his wit and charisma. He was also a bit stubborn which served as a testament to his resilience. Truly, his strength was his defining characteristic. This along with his faith in Jesus Christ, saw him through the many trials and tribulations life threw his way.
A Memorial service to celebrate the life of Edwin Wayne Smithwick will be held on April 27, 2024, at 11 AM at Eastside Baptist Church in Henderson, NC. As we gather to remember and honor him, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit, tenacity, and love for life will live on in all of us.
Edwin "Wayne" Smithwick was a man who left an imprint on this world. His was a soul that touched many, a mind that inspired thoughts and a heart that loved deeply. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, though we find solace in the memories he left behind. He will be dearly missed.
