Edwin's obituary

Edwin G. “Bud” Paul passed from this life peacefully at his residence in Pineville, LA, on February 20, 2019 at the age of 83.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vetta Beavers Paul and their two children, Dr. Jeffrey Paul and wife Pamela Beck of TX and Pamela Lynne Paul of Pineville, LA. He had 17 grandchildren; Lt. Col. Wing Commander Jason Paul and wife Sarah of OH, Joshua Paul and wife Claire of VA, Amy, Anna, Christy, Katie, Rachel, Melissa, Sarah, Emma, Ruth Ann, Laura, Jeni, Molly, and Jessi Paul of TX, Ashley Smith Peart and husband Ron of Alexandria, LA, and Stephanie Smith Poston and husband Nathaniel of Deville. He was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren, Jacob, Abigail, Adah, Josiah, Seth, and Shiloh Paul of OH, Lucy and Nathaniel Paul of VA, Nyeli Paul of TX, Steele and Lawsyn Peart of Alexandra, LA, and Isabella and Nicholas Poston of Deville, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Annie Briggs Paul of Monterey, LA, and two brothers, Buford Paul of Pollock, LA and Leslie Paul of Pollock, LA.
He graduated from Louisiana State University and held a degree in Criminal Justice. He was an officer with the Alexandria Police Department from 1958 until he retired as Assistant Chief of Police in 1978. He then went to work for the 9th Judicial District Court and retired as Chief Juvenile Probation Officer in 1995. He then went back to work as a bailiff for the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s department, retiring in 2003. He attended Philadelphia Baptist Church in Libuse, LA. He was also a Past Master Mason of Curtis T. Hines Masonic Lodge No. 317 in Tioga, LA.
He took every opportunity to help anyone in need. He welcomed everyone into his life and he never met a stranger. Family was of utmost importance to him and he cherished time spent with loved ones. He loved to go squirrel hunting and fishing on Black River, where he grew up. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville, LA, on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Hixson Brothers in Pineville, LA, with burial to follow at Springhill Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Philip Robertson and Bro. Tom Jordan will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph Hospice of Cenla for their excellent care and dedication.
