I met Ed in our intensive Russian classes at the Foreign Service Institute during which we all slogged through month upon month of learning. He was always a kind face in the hallway or great company for lunch. I enjoyed working in Kazakhstan and meeting in Almaty. I remember specifically running into Ed in the DC metro after missing my stop a few years ago — I was sick and fell asleep. He was so kind and went to get his car to drive me home. I enjoyed knowing such a kind soul was out there in this universe and feel saddened to hear he is no longer with us. I send his family wishes for peace in their hearts and lots of healing. May Ed rest in peace.
Dear Dinah and Frejya, we are really sorry for your lost but we know Ed life and good memories will stay with you and show you the way. Wishing you lots of strength in these difficult times and bright days to come soon afterwards as you celebrate his life .

I am so very sad to hear about Ed. I met Ed in the Peace Corps. He lived about 5 miles away from me and I spent every Saturday with Ed. I'd walk into his town to go to the market. We'd eat, play cards, listen to Shania Twain (not my favorite, but Ed loved her music). I was young and naïve and Ed taught me so much. We would share books - I learned about history and the role of sanitation in keeping people healthy. Ed served as my primary support for 2 years during a transforming time in my life. I am forever thankful for his warmth, kindness, and open mindedness. He taught me so much about myself and the world. You'll be missed and my heart aches for your beautiful family.
