Obituary for Edward Edwin Vanvaley

Edward Edwin Vanvaley, a beloved father, grandfather, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully earlier this month. He was the devoted father of Jessica Vanvaley and a steady, gentle presence in the lives of all who knew him.

Edward lived with humility, kindness, and an unwavering trust in God. Each morning began with prayer, gratitude, and the quiet belief that every day was a gift. His walk with Christ shaped his entire life — from the way he forgave, to the way he encouraged others, to the way he carried himself with patience and compassion.

One of the memories Jessica holds closest happened during a difficult season in her life. Without needing an explanation, Edward took down his old, worn Bible — the same one he had cherished since he was young — and sat beside her. He opened to Isaiah 41:10 and read, “Fear not, for I am with you… I will strengthen you, I will help you.” Then he gently placed his hand over hers and reminded her, “God is holding you together even when you feel like falling apart.” This simple act perfectly reflected the kind of father he was: prayerful, comforting, and filled with quiet wisdom.

Edward found joy in life’s simple blessings — gospel music drifting through the house in the mornings, peaceful afternoon walks spent in prayer, and quiet moments reading devotionals at the kitchen table. He lived not for himself but for others, always showing grace, patience, and unconditional love.

His greatest earthly joy was his daughter, Jessica, whom he guided not only as a father but as a spiritual anchor. Through his example, he taught her to pray, to trust, and to hold fast to faith even in the hardest moments.

While his family grieves his passing, they take comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord — whole, joyful, and at peace. His legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

“God is close to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18
