Edward's obituary

Edward B. Samuel was born in Tirupur, India, on January 29, 1941, and died on January 7, 2025, in Westminster, Maryland. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Matthew K. Samuel and Salome Samuel. He is survived by his wife, Stella Prasada-Rao Samuel and sons Marc and Sean. He was the eldest sibling and is survived by George, Stella (Thomas), Richard, and Ruth (Bixby). Ed met the love of his life, Stella, at Spicer Memorial College, Pune, India, and they were married on May 16, 1965. Their sons were born in Pune, India, Marc in 1974 and Sean in 1975.

Education was a priority in Edward’s life. His many degrees are a testament to higher education. He earned two degrees at Spicer Memorial College: an associate’s degree in industrial design and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. At the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, he earned a PhD in Chemistry. Next, he earned a master’s in architecture from the University of Colorado, followed by a Master of Environmental Design, and an architectural degree from Yale University. In addition to accomplishing groundbreaking work in his respective fields, some of his academic accolades included teaching and heading the Science Division at Spicer, teaching and heading the Architecture Department at Andrew’s University in Berrien Springs, MI, teaching in New Haven as well as being the president of the Yale Club in New Haven, CT.

He studied the Bible thoroughly as evidenced by his many worn and annotated copies. Throughout his life, he actively participated in church and successfully managed to wear many hats as a Sabbath School teacher, choir director, and church elder.

He was a scientist, artist, and music lover – a devout patron of the arts! As a self-taught musician, he played several instruments and was a member and conductor of numerous music groups and choirs. As a well-versed audiophile and bibliophile, he amassed large collections of records and books which he loved to share.

Edward loved his family and devoted his life to them.
