Edward's obituary
Edward Punniam passed away at home on October 6 2023. He was born in Sri Lanka (Ratnapura, Sabaragamuwa) on September 12 1944 to the late Mr. Samuel Deva Punniam (School Principal) and Mrs. Rathnam Koilammal Punniam (School Teacher), both born in India and later settled in Sri Lanka.
Edward was the second youngest sibling to the late Mr. Hastings Punniam, late Mrs. Sarojah Nicholas, late Mrs. Suganthy Charles, late Mrs. Dhanam Sithambaram, and the late Mr. Samuel Punniam.
He was a devoted husband to Dakshini Edward (née Manickam) and father to his daughters Janahi Edward and the late Elizabeth Edward.
He will be missed by his cousin Mrs. Beaula Selvaraj, and nieces and nephews: Priscilla, Joseph, Samuel, Geetha, Yvonne, Anoj, David, Jerome, Brian, and Manoharan.
He was lovingly known as "Tha Tha" to his grand-daughter Kaesika as well as by his grand children Kezia, Joanna, Karen, Matthew, and Nataniel.
In Sri Lanka he worked for Inland Revenue and Tax Dept in Nuwara Eliya and Colombo. He immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1990 where he pursued further education and held several other job titles.
He was a member of Christ Church Scarborough Village, St. John the Divine Anglican Church, and St. Margaret in the Pines Anglican Church.
Back home he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and then in Canada he found joy in driving his car, dining at restaurants, drawing, gardening and swimming. He was a fantastic cook and loved making traditional meals. He had an interest in learning about finance and accounting as well as keeping abreast of the latest worldwide political news. At home he practiced playing his piano, violin, and guitar. To keep himself active, he had completed karate training as well.
Edward will be laid to rest in St. Margaret's cemetery on Saturday October 21 2023 at 11:00 am EST with a blessing from Reverend Ravi Kalison.
