Edward Nelson Sr., born on November 16, 1947, passed away on June 12, 2023. A Vietnam veteran, Edward was a hardworking, devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Edward Ernest Nelson Jr.; daughter, Melissa Ann Nelson; daughter-in-law, Betty Mincey; and grandchildren, Katelynn Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Heather Sorrell, Haley Sorrell, Brandy Sorrell, and Brandon Sorrell.
In 1967, Edward bravely served his country in the Vietnam War. As a single father, he raised his children with love and dedication, teaching them the values of hard work and enjoying life. He was a humble, honest, and humorous man who devoted his life to his family. Edward's legacy will be one of kindness and generosity.
Edward's career began as a self-employed painter in 1970, before he transitioned to work at the Geysers Administration Center as a laborer in 1992. His favorite foods included KFC's Extra Crispy Fried Chicken, and he enjoyed Coors beer. Edward was a fan of music by Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Hank Williams. He loved watching wrestling on TV and Western movies, and he supported the San Francisco 49ers. In his free time, Edward enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time at any casino or the Clearlake Fishing Dock.
Among Edward's greatest accomplishments was raising his children as a single father. His granddaughter fondly remembers his playful advice, "Quit smoking that Wacky-Tobacky; it fries your brain and makes you stupid." Edward's life was a testament to his love for his family and his commitment to making the most of every moment.
