Edward's obituary
He grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1960.
He worked for the former Barrett & McKenna, James Stewart Motors, L.S. Starrett Co, Newcomb Motors, and Echo Industries of Orange. Retiring in 2005.
He served in the 104 and 181 Infantry 1st BN Co. B of the Massachusetts National Guard from 1963 to 1970 as Sargent and Squad Leader.
He attended the Salvation Army School of Officers Training in Suffrin, NY and was commissioned as Lieutenant and was stationed in Bath, ME; Westbrook, ME; Worcester, MA; Salem, MA; and Norwalk, CT before resigning as Captain in 1979.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and model railroading. He was a life member of the NRA. A life member and past master of the North Quabbin Lodge of Masons in Athol, and a Lodge Ambassador for the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. Life member and past Secretary of Union Royal Arch Chapter. Life member of Harris Council in Gardner. Life member and past recorder of Athol-Orange Commandery #37 in Athol. Former member of the Melha Shrine of Springfield. Past District Deputy Grand Secretary of the Barre 13 Masonic District. Past District Deputy Grand Secretary of the 9th Capitular District. Member of Thomas Royal Arch Chapter in Fitchburg, and member of Jerusalem Commandery #19 in Fitchburg.
He is survived by his three children Tina Smedley of Orange, Kenneth (Julie) Meehan of Templeton, and Patti (Shannon) Nickerson of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; four Grandchildren Heidi Cassie, Nathan Rushia, Emma Nickerson, and Megan Nickerson; and two Great Grandchildren Curtis Cassie and Killian Rushia.
Burial will be held at Silver Lake Cemetery in Athol, MA.
