Edward's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Edward "Ed" McDaid on June 19, 2024. Born on November 11, 1932, Edward filled his 91 years with endearing happiness and irreplaceable memories.

Edward's life was beautifully simple, filled with laughter, love, and a large family he cherished. He had a special bond with his wife Janet that spanned a remarkable 69 years. He often had a treat to give whenever someone visited and was usually seen sporting red suspenders. His tradition of gifting an envelope of money, $2 bills and coins on birthdays will always be warmly remembered. A true family man and beloved member of the community, Edward's legacy will forever reside in the hearts of those who knew him.

Edward was known for his happy-go-lucky personality, often described as light-hearted, easy-going, and a friend to everyone. He gave everyone a nickname, greeted people with a smile and had a knack for packing a moving truck like a jigsaw puzzle. A highlight of his day was two evening beers, playing the Idaho Lottery, and being Irish lucky. These were his cherished routines and they spoke volumes of his belief in seizing joy from the ordinary moments of daily life.

In 1951, Edward completed his studies at St. Teresa's Academy ahead of schedule to join the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class (A/1C). He served with distinction until 1954, when he received an honorable discharge from both the Air Force Reserve and the Idaho Air National Guard. Edward began his career at Peasley Transfer & Storage/Allied Van Lines in 1953 and dedicated 46 years to the company before retiring in 1999. This long and distinguished tenure spanned nearly half a century, showcasing Edward's commitment and loyalty to the organization throughout his professional life. His devotion to his work was only surpassed by his love for his family, who he cherished deeply.

Edward was not only the beloved firstborn of a family of 16 children, but also a doting husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his vibrant spirit and enduring love for his family. His departure has left a void that will never be filled, but his memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Edward was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boise, Idaho, and he was nothing short of an Irish blessing to everyone. He would often joke when asked the time, replying "It's about a quarter after." His spirit, humor, and the love he held for his family, will continue to live on, reminding us to embrace each day with a light heart and a welcoming smile.

Edward was predeceased by his loving wife, Janet Lee (Prokesh) McDaid, his parents, William J. McDaid and Mildred Howard, and siblings William (Bill), Helen Stephens, Timothy (Kevin), Robert (Bob), Charles (Gene), Francis J. (Joe), Thomas (Tom), and John Dominic (Jack) McDaid. Edward is survived by his siblings Elizabeth (Betty) Wolterman, Catherine (Kay) Thomas, Mildred (Millie) Webster, Paul McDaid, Mary (Patty) Terry, James (Jim) McDaid, Mary (Patty) McDaid, and Alicia Albrecht.

His spirit will be carried forward by his children, Edward A (Tony) McDaid and Lisa Ann (McDaid) Malespin. Edward's joyous spirit lives on through his grandchildren Joshua (Josh) Morgan, Nicholas (Nick) Malespin, Brittany Malespin, and great-grandsons, Hunter James Malespin, Maddox Lee Malespin, and Emerson Davis Morgan.

A service to commemorate Edward will be held on July 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at 11:00 AM at Stephen C. Guerber Park. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories of Edward's love, laughter, and legacy.

Edward's legacy of hard work, generosity, family, and kindness will continue to live on through the lives of those he touched.
