A man of exceptional faith and leadership, Edward served as the Senior Pastor of Berea Apostolic Faith Church in Stone Mountain since 1998. Under his guidance, the church flourished into a beacon of hope, spiritual growth, and community outreach. His voice from the pulpit stirred souls, his laughter filled rooms, and his wisdom shepherded generations.
Edward earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Tennessee State University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. He held certifications in Theology, Ministry, and ISO Lead Auditing. His professional career spanned over four decades and included leadership roles at major institutions such as Ford Motor Company, Frito-Lay, Boehringer Mannheim (now Roche Diagnostics), Reilly Industries, GS Battery, and Woodbridge Corporation.
As a Lean/Six Sigma and TQM expert, Edward provided consulting services to small and mid-sized enterprises across various industries. His resume boasted numerous accomplishments—developing Quality Management Systems, achieving ISO certifications, implementing lean manufacturing principles, and saving hundreds of thousands of dollars through efficiency improvements. He was admired for his ability to combine technical expertise with strategic leadership, managing operations across the U.S. and Latin America.
Edward’s work earned him industry recognition, special service awards, and a reputation as a mentor and leader who elevated people and processes alike. Whether he was managing complex manufacturing systems or preaching a Sunday sermon, he led with conviction, clarity, and compassion.
Yet beyond the resume, Edward was a man of many gifts. He could sing, dance, preach, cook, fight, and fix just about anything. He was funny, fearless, and fiercely devoted to those he loved. He poured his heart into every role he held—pastor, father, husband, teacher, leader, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Oberon Matheny, and his six children: Victor McNeal, Cedric Matheny, Crystal Matheny, Geoffrey Miller, Lydia Matheny, and Dashira Fletcher. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Nick, Kali, Victor III, Gabby, Isaiah, Lincoln, Nimah, Vinson, Lukas, Nuri, Bella, and Andrea. And his siblings; Jerry, Linda, Janice, and Shelia. He was a pillar of strength and love for his family, leading them with faith, humility, and joy.
Edward’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the sermons he preached, the systems he built, and the love he gave so freely. His was a life well-lived—anchored in God, family, wisdom, and purpose.
