Edward's obituary
Edward Charles Kennedy left this earth on July 19, 2022 at the age of 58. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family following a six-year battle with cancer that he courageously fought with optimism, humor, and a permanent smile on his face.
Ed was born in Arlington, VA on May 20, 1964 to Edward and Rosemarie Kennedy. He is survived by Sara, his wife of 32 years, and his four children: Julia, 36, Naomi, 28, Joel, 25, and Matthew, 18. He also leaves behind his mother, his four siblings, Mary McLaughlin (John), Trish Branigan (Christopher), Joseph (Michelle), and Thomas (Martha), two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved ‘69 Mercury Cougar XR7.
He lived in Northern Virginia for all 58 years of his life, attending St. Michael’s Catholic School and Bishop O’Connell before continuing his education at George Mason University, where he graduated in 1991. A true techie at heart, Ed spent the majority of his professional career as a senior developer and data specialist at Empower IT and IRI Worldwide, where he was employed for nearly 25 years until his death.
As an alumnus of GMU’s chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, a softball coach, and an all-around friendly and outgoing man, Ed “Budman” made an impact on many people throughout his life. He always had a smile to give and a joke to share, which he would follow up with his booming, infectious laugh. He enjoyed classic rock music and films both good and bad, which he often made references to in hopes that someone could “name that movie.” An avid sports fan, he was rarely seen without a baseball cap that exemplified the love he had for one of his many favorite teams.
A mass will be held at Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA on Monday, August 1 at noon, which will also be available to live stream at www.youtube.com/NativityParis…. The service will be followed by a celebration of life at Kilroy's in Springfield, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arc of Northern Virginia.
