Edward's obituary

Edward G Powell left this world April 1, 2025. He was born February 23, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas. His family moved to New Mexico when he was a child. He attended Queen of Heaven Catholic School, St. Pius X Catholic High School (1973), and New Mexico State University.

He started his career in Austin, Texas at Texas Instruments and then moved to Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he worked for over 25 years. He loved his work and was well known in the Sandia technical community although most of his work was classified.

While he enjoyed his work, his true love in life was spending time in nature, most fondly when riding horses or his Harley in the Sandia Mountains. Ed also had a passion for music and enjoyed life with friends and family sharing drinks and listening to music whenever possible.

He was preceded in death by his father George. He is survived by his children Kristin and Adam (Melissa), his mother Mona, his grandchildren Damiana and Ryan, his brothers and sisters, Kathy (Bill), Bo (Craig), Sue, David, and Peggy (Randy), along with numerous nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, and great-great nieces/nephews.

Eddie was blessed to have numerous friends in his life, including his best friend Kimmer whom he spoke with daily. He cared for countless fur babies, 4 legged friends, and was a steward to so many others in nature in his years of life.

If you wish to do something to honor Eddie, please spend some time in nature observing your favorite spiritual practice, help an animal in need, or plant a tree as an act of remembrance.

Our Dad loved a good story. His son Adam quotes Ed often "don't let the truth get in the way of a good story". Please share your fondest memories & stories with our beloved Ed below.
